The Coloring Channel is a membership-based learning platform based in Australia, making colouring education more approachable and enjoyable. It brings together guided projects, techniques, resources, and rewards across pencil and marker.
01
The existing experience relied heavily on manual processes to manage memberships, content and access, making it difficult to scale as the community grew.
02
Users came with different levels of colouring experience and commitment. New members needed an approachable way to explore the platform and build confidence, while experienced colourists needed ways to continue developing their skills.
03
Learning to colour is an ongoing process, and keeping users engaged beyond their first few lessons can be challenging. The experience needed to remain enjoyable as they continued learning and exploring.
As The Coloring Channel community grew, the goal was to move away from manual, time-consuming processes and bring membership, content, and access management into one streamlined platform.
From a design perspective, we aimed to create a more seamless and encouraging learning experience for both new and experienced colourists helping them know where to start, easily discover what they need, feel motivated by their progress, and build the confidence to keep learning and creating.
Before defining the experience, we worked closely with stakeholders to understand the business, its growing community, and the challenges behind the existing experience. We explored the needs and behaviours of colourists, studied established learning and content platforms, and mapped the learning journey to identify opportunities for a simpler, more engaging experience.
The marketing website was designed as the first touchpoint for prospective members, helping them understand what The Coloring Channel offers, explore its learning experience, and see the value of joining before entering the platform.
Moving away from manual content management, we created a flexible system that makes it easier to create, organise, and publish content at scale allowing the growing community to access the same experience without increasing manual effort.
Members had different levels of experience and commitment, and a first visit could feel like a significant step. We reduced the entry barrier by allowing members to explore the platform before committing, with free resources and guided onboarding helping them understand the value before signing up.
Members came with different levels of digital confidence and colouring experience. We simplified the experience with clear navigation, guided entry points. The experience needed to support members from their first steps through continued learning, adapting to their progress, interests, and experience along the way.
A structured tagging and filtering system makes hundreds of lessons easier to find. Admins can tag content by relevant topics and techniques, while users can search, filter, explore and save lessons to quickly find what they need.
We introduced small moments of encouragement throughout the experience from rewards and progress moments to playful characters and messages to make learning feel more enjoyable and give members reasons to keep coming back.
Membership needs can change over time. We designed flexible subscription controls that allow members to pause their plan, upgrade or downgrade between Pencil, Marker, and combined plans, or switch between mediums without having to cancel and start again.
Stripe integration powers these changes, giving members more control over their membership while making it easier to adapt their plan as their interests, availability, or learning needs change.
The platform was built to support a growing content library, rich artwork, and long-form learning while maintaining performance across devices. Through website development and web app development, the foundation was designed to make content delivery, learning experiences, subscriptions, and future platform growth easier to manage.
The Coloring Channel’s website and membership platform were structured to make its growing library of colouring education easier to discover across search engines and AI answer platforms. Feelpixel organized content around the ways prospective members search for colouring lessons, techniques, projects, and creative inspiration, with clear content hierarchies, searchable categories, topic tags, and guided pathways. This SEO, AEO, and GEO-ready structure helps search engines crawl and understand the platform, while giving AI answer engines clear, relevant content to surface for colouring-related queries. Built on a scalable content foundation, the experience supports long-term organic visibility while helping new members find trusted learning resources and confidently begin their colouring journey.
Reduction in Operational Time
Automating content, membership, access, and reward management reduced the time spent on repetitive manual tasks.
Greater Audience Reach
The platform replaces a limited, manually managed experience with a scalable digital platform that can support a much larger member base.
Increase in Platform Adoption
A more accessible entry experience, free resources, and streamlined onboarding helped increase the number of users engaging with the platform.
Increase in Member Engagement
Guided learning, recommendations, rewards, and personalised moments encourage members to continue learning and return to the platform.
We structured The Coloring Channel around a clear learning journey that helps members understand where to start, what to explore next, and how to continue building their colouring skills. Guided onboarding, a first project, structured lessons, and progressive content make the experience easier to follow while still allowing members to explore freely.
We surface relevant content at the right moments from first projects and featured videos for new members to personalised recommendations and continued learning for returning members. Search, filters, and admin-managed tags make the wider lesson library easy to explore.
We introduced progress, rewards, encouraging messages, and playful interactions throughout the journey. These moments make learning more enjoyable and help members stay motivated to continue learning and creating.
We gave members more control over their membership with options to upgrade, downgrade, or pause their subscription. This makes it easier to adapt their plan when their needs change, without having to cancel their membership entirely.
We used Next.js and NestJS to build the frontend and backend, supported by AWS RDS, S3, and CDN infrastructure for secure storage and efficient content delivery. Vimeo and Stripe were integrated for video hosting and subscription management, with the platform built responsively across devices.
